Mas Tacos Por Favor, or just Mas Tacos to us Nashville locals, has been forever on my list of go to places in East Nashville.
The charm of Mas Tacos is that while it was a food truck that has successfully moved to brick and mortar, it has retained the things that make a food truck so charming and appealing, faster food that tastes like slow food, and is worth standing in line for. The Saturday line is never-ending and we made it in the door right at 3:00 (closing time) and there was still a line behind us.
The food is creative, yet remains authentic to its roots. You might find quinoa/sweet potato or chorizo and cactus. They also offer fried plantains, tamales and chilaquiles. I want to go back for the fried avocado tacos!
One of these tacos had pork and an acidic slaw for a perfect balance, the other a chorizo and egg, a brunch item.
One of my favorite things at Mas Tacos Por Favor is the aqua fresca. We had pineapple with cilantro, not too sweet, full of refreshment and a great accompaniment to the flavor profiles in the food.
The Legendary Tortilla Soup at Mas Tacos Por Favor
The tacos are not the only reason people stand in line. The tortilla soup has a cult following, and I joined that crowd. I was so inspired by the simplicity of a soup so full of lime and cilantro I made my own copy cat version, which I’ll be posting in a few days.
You can make this soup at home.
I made a copycat version of the soup here. It’s amazing.
It’s a clear chicken broth with lots of lime, white meat chicken, avocado, grilled corn, tortilla soup, grape tomatoes, queso fresco, and plenty of cilantro. It’s not a spicy version which makes it great for kids too, and it has all that warmth and comfort of a chicken soup you can’t get enough of.
