Aretha Frankensteins Pancake Mix: A Scary Good Give Away

Two summer’s ago, we went to Chattanooga and stumbled upon the coolest breakfast place with the funkiest name. Aretha Frankenstein’s. I took these pictures, not knowing I would have a food blog, and the owner, Jeff Brakebill, would one day send me a case of the most delicious pancakes in the world. It was just a fluke. Lucky for me, my husband met him at a music event in Nashville, and the conversation led to his restaurant, our visit and my big interest in all things food.

Their tag line is “simply the best pancake ever created.” And, I agree.

It’s bold statement to make, but these buttermilk pancakes were tested by crowds of loyal fans who frequent Aretha Frankensteins (the diner), the place where the pancakes got their start.

There is nothing better to me than a quirky, locally owned breakfast joint. (Although the place is open until midnight, the amazing breakfasts make it a breakfast joint to me). To this day, I can’t get past missing my favorite hang in Long Beach. I ate breakfast out every weekend at the Coffee Cup Cafe. It was home and it was the last meal I ate as a single woman on the morning of my wedding. Aretha Frankensteins would be just that kind of place for me if I lived in Chattanooga. And, the pancakes would be part of the memories collected there, along with all the “frankenstein heads” and other campy monster stuff, and, of course, the people watching.

Let’s face it. It’s not easy to launch a pancake mix. The “big” companies have this one. And, as far as bloggers go, we know how to make pancakes from scratch.

But, this is a mix with a recipe. They have figured out just the right combination of basic ingredients. You add the buttermilk, eggs and oil and then eat the most flavorful and fluffy pancakes you will find anywhere. The flavor and texture of these pancakes (in my opinion) can’t be improved upon.

When I received a full case of the pancake mix, I thought surely I would have to give most of the case away, but we are into our 4th box and I’m holding tight. However, for one lucky, creative reader, who lives in the USA, will receive a box. All you need to do is tell me what Frank is saying as you leave your comment. The best caption wins. How easy is that?

If you are in Chattanooga, and want to stop at by Aretha Frankensteins or you want to purchase these pancakes on-line, visit their website for more information. They are open from 7:00 a.m. to midnight and it’s like the best of the best street food out of a kitchen, made to order. Delicious.

I live in Columbus, Ohio. I found Aretha Frankensteins pancake mix at a thrift store I frequent. When I tried the mix I knew I had to rush back to the thrift store to purchase more. I did get a couple more boxes. This morning I used my last remaining mix. I haven’t seen any more of Aretha Frankensteins mix at this store. I’ll order some boxes from the website. This is the BEST pancake mix I have ever used. I’d like to find it at my local grocery store(s). I’m keeping the empty box until I get MORE!!
