Pork and Beans Recipe for Baked Beans Lovers
Old Fashioned Pork & Beans, semi-homemade with sausage and bacon.
large cans baked beans (See Note to make your own beans or 1 pound navy beans (if you are making your own beans; otherwise use canned
links sweet sausage
yellow or orange bell pepper, diced very finely

If you are using your own beans, cook beans first.
Soak beans in cold water, allowing three inches of water on top.
Rinse. Cover with three inches of water and bring to boil. As soon as water boils, turn down to a steady simmer. Cook until beans are tender, about one hour.

In frying pan, saute diced bell pepper and onion, just until soft.
Add in ketchup, maple syrup, brown sugar and spices.
Cook for five minutes.
Add to beans. Put in sausage. Cover with bacon
Bake in oven at 350 degrees covered for 20 minutes. Uncover for last ten minutes.
These are sweet beans. You can add in some heat by adding in 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper.
