The Tavern Kitchen & Bar in Central West End

The Tavern Kitchen & Bar

On a recent St. Louis trip, which I’ve written about here, we fell in love with the Central West End neighborhood. While outdoor cafes sprinkle the sidewalks, the Tavern Kitchen and Bar, must be amazing for people watching and ambiance, but weather put us inside and we still enjoyed the charm of the comfortable contemporary decor.

You know how sometimes a bad experience leads to a perfect experience? I’m still learning the hard way to hold on tight because when it rains, the sun follows. The first place we went to didn’t work out and I’ll take the high road and leave it at that. We felt a little deflated having had our hopes up for it, but it wasn’t meant to be. We drive around for a few blocks and stumbled on the Tavern Kitchen and Bar. It was meant to be.

We felt welcome. We loved the atmosphere. We got a glance of what people were eating, and we knew we would be leaving St. Louis on the right note.

The Tavern Kitchen & Bar has a Great Brunch

We started with cocktails.

I had the Dorothy Gale: Ruby Red Grapefruit infused Vodka, St. Germain Liqueur, Lime juice, Blood Orange Puree. Refreshing and not too sweet.

The Tavern Kitchen & Bar is well known for their blueberry lemon ricotta pancakes. If I ever get back to St. Louis, I’ll be sitting in front of these again. I have to figure out how to repeat this recipe because they were so fluffy, decadent, yet not too sweet and most importantly, I’m still thinking about them.  They also have fried donuts with blueberry compote and lemon curd, which I hear are just as powerful in drawing customers back in the door.

Pancetta, Pork Belly, Potatoes, Brussels Sprouts, poached eggs is as good as it looks. They ask how you want your eggs done and they get it right.

Stylish and approachable, the decor is modern, comfortable, handsome, pretty.

We were treated to a strawberry flan, because they rightfully wanted to show us this glorious little dessert, which is infused with orange and has that perfect caramel crack.

I took a picture of this as it came out of the kitchen. Classic skillet chocolate chip cookie.

The kitchen is open to the public, where all the hard work takes place.

After taking a look at the dinner menu, I would easily return  for dinner. The variety of global flavors at the Tavern Kitchen & Bar make this an exciting cafe with really good food. There are two locations, and plenty of vegetarian and gluten free options.
