I made baked beans for a family picnic, inspired by your recipe. I used dark muscovado sugar, liquid smoke, and smoked paprika to flavor it. I need to make it again, following more carefully your instruction about keeping the beans fully in the liquid. I let the liquid get too low during the time in the oven and my beans were a bit tough as a result. But very flavorful! I had never used the full-sized lima beans before and my regular store didn't have them, I had to seek out both those and the liquid smoke (to substitute for the bacon flavor). Thanks for expanding my culinary horizons!

The 'maple bourbon' in the title sucked me in, and despite the fact that it's pretty awesome-looking comfort food as per her original recipe, I can't help but think that you improved it with those ingredients. I've never tried butter beans, this might be the recipe for me to try them out. Despite the fact that I don't eat bacon, I'm pinning this recipe-- I've been wanting to try making some veggie bacon (from coconut flakes or possibly portobellos) and this would be a great recipe for me to use my veggie bacon in.

I am pretty crazy about lima beans or any other bean for that matter. What a great idea to make them into baked beans! I would never have thought of that, but they look so good. I'll give it a go.
