The Perfect Size Cake from Duncan Hines can make an ordinary day feel special.
Life is sometimes more bread crust than soft center, more thorns than roses, and more weeds than pretty grass. When I feel like that, I turn my oven on and get out my baking supplies. A little bit of cake can turn a day around and make everyone feel loved, and happier.
Who doesn’t smile and feel loved when someone bakes a little cake just for them in their own favorite flavor?
If you’re thinking to yourself, “sure she bakes and has time to clean up the kitchen,” let me assure you that, while I do bake from scratch often, I’m just like you and have those days when I need something easy that is still wonderful enough to turn on the oven.
The Perfect Size Cake from Duncan Hines is exactly what I need for those days when we are itching to bake, want minimal mess and still want a special experience. You can bake any one of these flavors in your own kitchen with very little fuss.
Duncan Hines has come out with the Perfect Size Cakes. They are tiny cakes, only six inches round, but enough to enjoy four adult sized pieces. Be careful, though, you might be tempted to eat one all by yourself.
Perfect Sized Duncan Hines Cakes Come in Five Flavors.
- Chocolate Lover’s (chocolate cake with chocolate frosting)
- Red Velvet Dream (red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting)
- Lemon Bliss (lemon cake with lemon frosting)
- Strawberries and Crème (strawberry cake with cream cheese frosting)
- Golden Fudge (golden cake with chocolate frosting)
The size of the cake encourages you to celebrate the little things in life without having to make a cake for ten, and without making a kitchen mess. The cake boxes are uniquely shaped, and include the cake mix, frosting mix and a disposable 6-inch pan with a removable bottom. The bottom will direct you to cool and press. Press up from the bottom, and and the cake will slip out easily, which is a clever feature.
The batter is very fluffy, the cakes baked very consistently, have a nice moist crumb, but enough body to hold the frosting.
When I received the five flavors all at once, I couldn’t resist the idea of a cake party, with the neighborhood kids.
Each of them got to pick a flavor and help to make their own cake.
I wouldn’t let anyone eat any cake until all five were finished. You can just imagine that anticipation. The wait was worth it, because while all the kids went to another room to play, I quickly decorated them, and made a cake buffet. The cakes do not come with sprinkles; I added my own. You can get as creative as you like.
Frosting Tip: Cool completely, and freeze for 10 minutes before frosting. Serve as is, or decorate with your own sprinkles, or fresh fruit.
If I can make five cakes in one day with kids running around my house, imagine how easy it is to just make one and celebrate life, just because.
The directions are really simple. You mix everything in own bowl. Bake. While the cake is baking, wash out that bowl, and make the frosting. How easy is that? You will need butter for both the cake and frosting mix, and one egg,
Sharing food is my love language, and by the reaction of everyone begging for their third slice of these cute little cakes, it was a love fest.
Cake Decorating Tip: One of the boys wanted a heart in the middle of the chocolate. Freeze the cake for about 10 minutes to get the frosting firm. Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter and press into the frosting. Add your sprinkles, either inside the heart or all around the heart shaped cutter.
So tell me, out of these five flavors, which one would you pick?
