Holiday Hunger No More

Let's Support Holiday Hunger No More

I have been asked to do something very special this holiday season. This is a sponsored post in partnership with Farm Rich who has named me the Nashville area #HolidayHungerNoMore Goodwill Ambassador.

Together, with a little help from YOU, we are going to feed more families and individuals in need by supporting the Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee.

This was an answer to a prayer for me and maybe it will answer a prayer of yours too.

I was pondering ways I could help others to have their food needs taken care of because not all people are blessed with a full refrigerator and many invitations to food events, like myself.

Aside from nurturing the body, food nurtures the soul. Too many people don’t have enough food to eat, and if you’re like me, together with the donation from Farm Rich, you’ll be happy to help change this through #HolidayHungerNoMore.

Farm Rich has made it so easy – all we have to do is start the conversation!  For every story that my friends and followers share about how they’re giving back during the holiday season using #HolidayHungerNoMore, Farm Rich will donate $5 to Second Harvest Food Bank, up to $1000!

This is a big heart cause and all you need to do to help feed the community is leave a comment telling us how you are sharing this holiday season.

If you go to my Facebook post, and upload a picture showing us how you are giving back, or use your words to tell us with #HolidayHungerNoMore, Farm Rich will give $5 per share to Second Harvest. How wonderful is that? You can also do your own individual social media posts sharing pics and or words telling us how you give back, as long as you use the hashtag #HolidayHungerNoMore.

Farm Rich is not only going to give back this holiday season with each of your shares, they care about how you eat every day.

Farm Rich has been helping families get snacks and dinner on the table with easy to prepare frozen foods made with wholesome ingredients. They understand how busy, stressed, and overwhelmed moms are on a daily basis whether it’s an overload of school activities, working all day, parenting all night, or striving to get it all done during the holidays.

Even the best of from scratch cooks can’t keep that pace every single day. I know I can’t.

Hey, I won’t judge you if you buy and devour their frozen Donut Holes either.

Sometimes there’s a mere twenty minutes to figure out how to feed everyone. Farm Rich offers lots of options, but the best thing they are doing this month is contributing money to a charity near and dear to my heart.

The Second Harvest Food Bank is something I have talked about before. I often attend fund raisers like Generous Helpings that support this incredible organization.

They have been providing food for hungry people in middle Tennessee since 1978. During the 2015/2016 fiscal year, Second Harvest distributed more than 30 million pounds of food to over 450 Partner Agencies, providing more than 25 million meals of food to hungry children, families and seniors throughout our 46-county service area.

Here is How You Can Help Feed More People this Holiday Season

Holiday Hunger No More

You do not need to spend any money. Just tell us or show us here. You can also do the same on your favorite social media to earn additional contributions. Share a picture  with you giving back, or use words to tell us how you are giving back using #HolidayHungerNoMore. I can’t wait to hear and see the greater good in you.

Let’s feed a lot of people this holiday season. xoxo

Don’t forget to use the hashtag #HolidayHungerNoMore. That’s the only way Farm Rich will be able to count your participation and make their donation. Post by December 31, 2016 to make your share count!

It’s important to support the people in your area. We give money to the food bank, gifts for the angel tree, I give time to Towards Employment. Giving makes me look outside myself and know that there are more important things in life and people can make a difference.

No need to elaborate on what we’ve done, but just want to share something from an old friend that I know to be true… he told me …
” Life ain’t much worth livin’ unless you’re doing something for somebody else”… it’s so very true… your world and the people you’ve helped will change for the better immediately!

THroughout the 2016 Holiday Season, I had the opportunty to Play music and Santa for children at a Neurological Rehabilitation Center. I also partnered with a grocery chain to support a local food bank and I was the second largest fundraiser in our region. #HolidayHungerNoMore

Always feels great to do good. We transformed our church’s fellowship hall into a special “toy store” filled with donated toys, gifts and food. Then the families from our church’s Food Pantry were invited to come in and “shop” for free Christmas gifts and food for their children/family. We volunteered as “personal shopping assistants” to either carry their chosen gifts or even to babysit their children while they shopped at their leisure through the “store”.

I actually organized a Cub Scout event for my son’s troop to participate in a family night at Second Harvest sorting food to give out. There were 14 of cubs, sisters, and parents and it felt great to give back and teach our kids about giving back too! #HolidayHungerNoMore

Such a wonderful post, Angela and it’s heart-warming to read what so many here have done to help others this holiday season. I helped plant trees in the Nashville community around Thanksgiving and donated to Charity:Water to help build wells in areas without access to water. I also donated hygiene products and clothing to families in the Gatlinburg area after the fires. #HolidayHungerNoMore

#HolidayHungerNoMore My family loves to ‘recycle’ our clothing, toys, etc, gifting either to specific families we know are in need or to charities that help others. Beyond that, I do what I can through the blog, sharing information that reaches others who can give even more.

#holidayhungernomore We had two extra ham and donated them to our Homeless shelter. Also, we gave to the Salvation Army who takes in people who have lost their homes for whatever reasons. This time of year it is difficult for everyone, especially the homeless.

#holidayhungernomore I love to hear stories of others giving back. I give back locally to Thistle Farms & Magdalene House, a nonprofit that rescues women from trafficking and rehabilitates them back into a dignified existence and contribution. Globally, I like to give back to Charity:Water, helping build wells in specific countries in Africa.

With the ridiculous amount of baked goods that I always end up with (perks of being a food blogger!), I’ve been dropping off what I make at local shelters and assistance centers. Some homemade love is really appreciated. My goal fort his next year is to jump into more of them and help cook. Meeting and sharing with the people there is truly a great way to perk up a day.

I am a teacher, and our school had a competition among homeroom classes to collect canned goods and hygiene products to be distributed in our community at the holidays. When each family donates a little, it adds up to a LOT! As an added benefit, the students see the value of working together to help others. #HolidayHungerNoMore

I love this idea, Angela, and I hope the response is huge! A friend of mine wrote a blog post recently about how the Christmas season is the time to be remembered, how people forget one another all year long but then there’s the friendly card in the mail reminding each other that you still care. I like that about the holidays more than anything else, that it pushes us to send cards, give gifts, thank the mail lady, wrap a present. #holidayhungernomore

Angela, I absolutely love this post! I am so encouraged and inspired by your precious heart. This year, I decided to go through my pantry and see what I could donate to our local food bank. It was humbling to see all of the great, quality food products I had used for shoots that were lying dormant in my pantry when people could be helped by them! #HolidayHungerNoMore

The weather around here can be so wonky, freezing one day, balmy the next so our go to give back at the holidays is to donate cold weather items like socks, gloves, hand/foot warmers, hats, etc. to local organizations like Room In the Inn and Open Table who help take care of our homeless neighbors in Nashville. #HolidayHungerNoMore

We’ve made a new friend this year: a divorced guy, whose kids are grown, and flown, and who lives alone.
My huzby man has been so helpful to him: this guy has had 2 surgeries this fall, and the huzz stayed with him all day, transporting him to the procedure & home, and getting his pain meds for him. We’ve invited him to spend the holidays with us, since his kids are out of the picture. I think sharing your home and your food with someone who is likely to be alone this season is a great way to share what you’ve been given, even if your budget is tight.
Have another friend whose husband just announced that he’s leaving her and their 5 kids for the woman he’s having an affair with. Sent her a small tangible gift that I know she’ll love, since she’ll not be getting anything from the philandering idiot she’s currently still co-habitating with. People who have just received emotional blows to the gut need reminders that they ARE precious!
2nd Harvest is my favorite charity, along with Habitat for Humanity, and I adore helping both causes! .
But it’s not just the nameless poor we need to remember this season.
I think it’s the poor in spirit, as well.

I am Co-Chair of Les Dames de Escoffier Nashville’s 2017 fundraiser, “Tour de Farm” where 70% of its proceeds will go to Nashville Mayor Barry’s new initiative Opportunity NOW that will provide paid internships and financial literacy for 10,000 at-risk Nashville youth this summer. The other 30% will be used to provide scholarships and supplies for young women interested in culinary/agriculture/hospitality careers. While I volunteer my time to various organizations, including Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee, I believe that kindness and generosity start with the person in the mirror every morning. Digging deep to find joy within ourselves causes an infinite ripple effect. Special thanks to Angela and Farm Rich for this meaningful promotion. Here’s to #HolidayHungerNoMore and a joyous new year!
